Vagus nerve: It is one trigger that leads to vasovagal syncope. The vagus nerve can malfunction slowing the heart and dropping the blood pressure which results in a lack of blood to the brain causes fainting. Vasovagal syncope typically poses no danger. I wonder why you would be having such a violent cough, and you need protection from falling is coughing.
