A member asked:

What is the difference between protonix (pantoprazole) and over-the-counter omeprazole? is one better than the other?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

They are both PPIs: Protonix (pantoprazole) and Omeprazole are both antacids of the same class called ppis (proton pump inhibitors). So they are both quite similar in their effects in reducing acid production in the stomach and work very well for treating acid reflux. But they are made by different pharmaceutical companies and are available in different doses in terms of the miligram sizes..
