Chronic inflammation: Rhematoid arthritis will cause degenerative changes to the ankle joints resulting in the ankle functioning incorrectly. This will in turn cause overuse of the tendons surrounding the ankle joint and chronic inflammation. Injections of cortisone around the tendon can be helpful as well as antiiflammatories. An ankle brace would be helpful to stabilize the joint and orthotics to realign the joint.
