A member asked:

I have had extremely long periods my entire life. lasting almost all year round. birth control did not work for me. what are my options?

Talk to your doctor: This can be a complicated question. You first need an evaluation as to why you menstrual cycles are heavy which includes and exam, lab work, and possibly and ultrasound. That being said, your options for heavy vaginal bleeding are generally with nsaids (ibuprofen), hormonal (ocp's, progesterone, or Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud), or surgical options (endometrial ablation, uterine artery embolization, hysterectomy).
