Several issues maybe: Pure postulations, but it could be a pinched nerve, even in your back (los lumbar) leading to a radilculopathy all the way down into your toe, could be gout affecting your toe, could be osteoarthritis, etc without an exam and maybe some testing, you may never know the true reason. Get evaluated and the answer should follow shortly from your dr. Good luck.
