A member asked:

Is it possible for the varicella rash to appear on both sides of the body at the same time?

Yes it is: Lesions generally begin on the chest or back and then spread to the face, neck, arms, and legs. Children usually run fever for several days. In addition to this, they may have a runny nose, sore throat and/or cough.

Agree: I agree and wanted to add that you may have been thinking about shingles (caused by the same virus), which virtually always affects the distribution of one or two nerves on just one side of the body. Those who get chickenpox (varicella) have a much more generalized rash, because they have no immunity to the virus. Those with shingles have some residual immunity from their bout with chickenpox.
