Difficult to predict: You are at higher risk than an average person. You can reduce your risk be abstaining from tobacco and alcohol. At this time there are no good markers for routine use that may catch early pancreatic cancer.

How sad!: I believe that most cases of pancreatic cancer are not hereditary. I have heard recently that males who carry one of the brca genes which increase breast cancer risk may have an increased risk of pancreatic cancer. In my hospital, there is a genetics expert who specializes in familial cancers - this is the type of person i'd want to talk to. See if you have one in your location. Good luck. Lgromko.
