Unlikely: A viral infection of the pleura cannot change into a bacterial infection. It is posssible for a bacterial infection to spread from the lungs into the pleural space by direct extension or through the bloodstream ie. Hematogenous spread. Viral infections cannot morph into bacterial infections.
