A member asked:

What does a psychiatric nurse specializing in children and adolescents do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

APN: I think you're talking about an advanced nurse practitioner, rns with extra training, in most states supervised by psychiatrists. Apn's can diagnose and prescribe medications as well as refer to a psychiatrist if it is out of his or her league. I supervise two apns, who do a great job. Ask about who is the supervising doc and be sure they are really supervised.
