A member asked:

Is there a difference between an emotional breakdown and depression?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on diagnosis: "emotional breakdown" or "nervous breakdown" are lay terms. Depression can be too, but it's also a term psychiatrist use to describe a syndrome of disrupted mood, appetite, sleep and libido. So depression and emotional breakdown might be the same, depending on the symptoms.
