Definition: If your upper front teeth are in front of your lower front teeth when you bite down fully, you have an overjet (aka over bite). It doesn't have to be excessive. An underbite is usually defined as if the upper front teeth lay behind the lower front teeth biting normally.

Look in mirror: Underbite (or class 3) is when the lower jaw teeth are even with or in front of the upper jaw teeth. Overbite is when the top teeth are far in front of the lower teeth.

Look in mirror: Look in the mirror. Your top teeth should fit over your bottom teeth like a lid on a jar. There should be a little bit of overlap all the way around. An underbite would be when the lower teeth are out in front of the upper teeth (e.g. The lid is too tight for the jar). A little bit of overbite is actually normal, but excessive would be in the other direction (lid too big for the jar).

Which is bigger: If your upper teeth are protruding further than your lower, that is an overbite. If your lower teeth are protruding further, that is an underbite.

Underbite ?: Underbite refers to the lower jaw being forward of the upper jaw when teeth touch(think of a ull dog look) while an overbite the oposite happens.. The upper jaw is positioned ahead of the lower jaw.

Both very different: An underbite is where the lower front teeth are infront of the the upper front teeth when you close your teeth together. An overbite is how your upper and lower front teeth cover each other when you bite down. How far does your lower front teeth go up and behind the upper front teeth when you bite down. I hope this helps answer this question.

Different: If you have an underbite, your bottom front teeth overlap your top front teeth. Vertical overbite is the amount of lower front teeth covered by upper front teeth, should be about 25%. Horizontal overbite (overrate) is how far in front of your lower front teeth your upper front teeth are positioned. Should be about 2mm. See an Orthodontic Specialist for initial exam (usually free) for info.
