It depends: Acute drops in body temperature can be a sign of an acute illness or injury and you should be seen by a health care provider right away. If this is a chronic issue and you have no other symptoms, you may be someone who's temperature exists on the low end of normal. Either way, it would be worth discussing with a health care provider.

97: The normal temperature is 98.6 degrees. When a composite of people are examined it is found that temperature can rise or decrease about 1.5 degrees depending on time of day, activity, hormonal cycle etc.. It is found that 97 degrees is the lower limit and below this is hypothermia.

May be hypothyroid: If you are not very ill, which can lead to a low temperature, and the temp is below 97. 6, you may be hypothyroid. Remember, 98.6 is average, normal can be 1 degree above or below. The temperature normally goes down at night and is lowest about 4:00-6:00 A.M. About 2 hours before awakening. Then it can be as low as 97.

How low?: A temperature slightly, up to 1 degree F, lower than the "normal" is okay if you have no symptoms. You may consult this site for more information on this topic:

Below 36.3 oral: The temperature at different parts of the body vary. The core temperature which is closest to that taken rectally is usually higher. The temperature taken in a clinic is usually oral temperature. By averaging people's temperature, it was determined that the normal temp is 36.8 plus or minus 0.5 so it would have a range of 36.3 to 37.3.
