Not directly: Mirtazepine is not a direct substitute for alprazolam, in terms of cross-tolerance. However, it can help basic anxiety if that's why your doctor prescribed the alprazolam. Alprazolam itself will still need to be tapered gradually, as you've indicated you want to do. Please work with your physician on a suitable tapering schedule.
