Fever, Chills, drain: Signs of infection after spinal fusion surgery are similar to other signs of injections, namely fevers, shaking chills, swelling, redness or drainage from your incision. Rejection of spinal hardware does not exist and with these symptoms, infection must be suspected.

Spinal fusion: Hardware rejection is extremely rare, especially with current titanium implants... Infection can happen unfortunately, and is typically associated with sweats, fever and chills and increasing back pain, possibly with drainage and redness around the wound. Typically occurs within weeks from surgery, rare to occur late... Go see your surgeon; hopefully it's something else!
