Probable muscles: There are probably muscle spasms. The question is why do the muscles cramp? This can be related to your breathing, head posture, jaw joint or chewing efficiency, airway space, sleep disturbances, etc. I would check with you physician or dentist to see if the answer to why the muscles cramp is discovered. Then you will know what and how to treat.

TMJ?: While this could be the result of weak neck muscles, it could also be related to an issue of your tempomandibular joint or tmj. Seeing your physician or possibly a physical therapist might be helpful.
