Yes: Elavil (amitriptyline) blocks the chemicals that produce gastric emptying, acetylcholine. The dose is less important than the susceptibility of the person. If Elavil (amitriptyline) is otherwise the best medication foryou, there are other ways to stimulate gastric emptying. On the other hand, if you are using Elavil (amitriptyline) as an antidepressant or for its analgesic or sedative properties, there may be other options to consider.
