Depends: Cannot speak for other doctors, but i routinely tell my patients to add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to their food, to pour it over after cooking.

Fat is still feared: Many docs are impressed by the Mediterr Diet data but, most do not have the time to counsel patients. Combined with the low fat mantra still taught in schools, docs I know are not urging their patients to eat more, and most Americans eat less Olive oil (especially CA extra virgin OO, certified) can be added to omelettes, salads, pastas, fish...just drizzled over the top.
