See doctor: Most sore throats and colds are caused by viruses which do not respond to antibiotics but sometimes they are caused by bacterial infections (ie: strep throat, staph infections) which need to be treated with antibiotics. The doctor can take a throat culture which will help to identify if you have a bacterial infection and require antibiotics.
