Be careful.: It's never a great idea to mix drugs, especially if you're not sure about their possible effect. Both over-the-counter cold medicine and xanax (alprazolam) (an anti-anxiety drug) may sedate you. Sometimes combinations of drugs have a more potent effect than you'd expect. Remember that alcohol and anxiety medications can be a deadly combination also. You are ok now; but talk to your doctor about combining meds.
