Varicose veins: These are normal with pregnancy and not dangerous. The valves in the vein become less effective and the veins hold the blood in them. If they are uncomfortable, wearing snug stockings can help.

May be varicose vein: Many women have varicose veins in pregnancy. These are enlarged veins of the legs, and sometimes, the vaginal labia. They can be uncomfortable, especially after prolonged standing. Using support stockings may help, but they will get quite a bit better after delivery. Important: if you are feeling a painful lump in your leg or one of your legs is swollen, see your doctor to be sure it's not a clot.
