SEVERAL: Grinding your teeth can be for many different reasons and include apsychological component...Stress, anxiety, nervousness, etc. A simple solution is the use of a professionally dispensed nightguard. If there is a psychological component i would suggest seeing a specialist that deals with your specific problem. You may also day grind and not know it. All grinding can lead to a jaw joint dysfunction.

Orthopedic Dentist: The cause of grinding is rarely correctly treated. Most dentist make a bite appliance for you to wear to keep from grinding away the teeth. This is only treating the symptom and not the cause. The usual cause is the roof of your mouth (palate) is too narrow in comparison to the lower jaw. The muscles not finding their home position keep searching = bruxism results.

Your bite needs help: There appears to be many causes for grinding. The best treatment should include a thorough evaluation of your bite, making it as healthy as possible, and possibly wearing a night guard to protect the teeth from further wear and damage.
