Histamine: Why opioids cause pruritis (itching) is partly because they cause a release of histamine which can make you feel itchy. It is a common side effect of these meds.

Histamine release: Opiates can make you feel itchy secondary to histamine release, it is a normal side effect but you should consul with your doctor to make sure you are not getting a more serious allergic reaction.
