Level of Training: Both are very important members of and ems team, however the paramedic typically started off as an emt and got some experience and then went o to paramedic school. Although emts now defibrillate and start ivs, the use of medication and endotracheal intubation as well as advanced knowledge of physiology and diagnosis are what sets the paramedics apart.
