A member asked:

Even though allergies activate the immune system, why can they be fatal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Overreaction: The allergic response is an overreaction, to something that normally you should not react to. Once an allergic response starts, depending on the severity of the immune response, the reaction can become very rapid and lead to a cascade of events that makes the blood pressure drop and soft tissues swell to cause choking, this is an anaphylactic reaction and can be fatal.
