It depends: There are several conditions that can cause earpain and for proper treatment the patient needs to be examined. In the meantime, the most effective pain remedy is using a medicine like ibuprofen.

OIL: If there are no ear tubes or ear drainage, take 2-3 drops of warm, not hot, mineral or olive oil. Place in the affected ear and cover with a heating pad for several minutes. This usually alleviates the pain . It is not a cure, so see the doctor.
