Think reflux: If its only at night it could be a little bit of reflux. Sometimes antibiotics can upset the stomach a bit causing reflux into the throat when laying down. Try no food or drink for 2 hours before laying down and see if that helps.

Your child...: ...Likely had two different things going on. Strep throat does not tend to cause cough. The cough is either viral or allergic, and neither viruses nor allergies can be treated with antibiotics, thus the antibiotic treated the strep and not the cough. Try a teaspoon of buckwheat or raw honey (no cute bear jars!) to treat the cough. Honey works better than any over the counter cough medicine.
