Will second-hand cigarette smoke hurt my baby?

Yes: Exposure to second hand smoke is a major health concern, especially in babies and children. Babies exposed to second hand smoke are at higher risk for asthma, ear infections, respiratory infections such as pneumonia, and have a higher incidence of sids. Furthermore, it has been shown to increase the risk of breast cancer in women who were exposed as children.A smoke free childhood is the best kind.

Yes: The risks of second hand smoke exposure in children are numerous: nearly twice as many respiratory infections (colds, sinus infections, bronchitis, pneumonia), increased risk for asthma exacerbation that may require er or hospitalization, increased eczema, increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome. Please talk with your doctor about proven strategies or medicactions to help quit smoking.
