A member asked:

Egfr 57 but no protein found in urine is this a good sign that i can recover kidney function?

Dr. Raj Singh answered

Yes: Presence of protein in the urine is always a bad prognostic sign. The higher the level of protein in the urine the more likelihood that kidney disease will progress. You have stage iii CKD based on your egfr and lack of protein in urine is a good sign. Stage iii CKD needs management by nephrologist so have your pcp refer you to a specialist.
