Diet, exercise, meds: You don't say how tall you are, but i will assume that you are not overweight. Nevertheless, if you have a strong family history for diabetes, you probably have type 2 diabetes. A low carb/starch diet, exercise are most important, but you may need medication to help your body use your own Insulin more correctly. If you actually have type 1 diabetes, you will need to take insulin.
