Both psychotic dxs: The criteria for a diagnosis of schizophrenia are more complex, generally including two or more "characteristic" symptoms (delusions, hallucinations, etc) as well as social/occupational dysfunction and other elements. A diagnosis of delusional disorder requires non-bizarre delusions (situations that occur in real life) and no significant functional impairment (among other requirements).

Psychosis: Delusional disorder typically affects mid adult aged females and is characterized by chronically held non bizarre delusions schizophrenia affects both genders in young adulthood. It is characterized by hallucinations, delusional thought and difficulty thinking. Schizophrenia also responds better to treatment then does delusional disorder.
