ADD vs ADHD: Adhd is rare in adults. Add is the same thing without the hyperactivity part. In nearly all cases this develops by teens or before. In some cases it may not have been recognized before, but most adults who need medications as adults were on medications as a child.

ADD in adults: Attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity begins in childhood and may continue through adulthood. Symptoms are similar: poor attention span, impulsivity and hyperactivity which is disruptive to others. Adults who present for a diagnosis must meet criteria for ADD in childhood which a careful history will support. Medical causes for symptoms must be ruled out.
