A member asked:

How does a person w chronic hives tell if they r having allergic reaction? i saw a couple mild hives after tylenol, (acetaminophen) but i get hives without pills too.

See a dermatologist: Hives for 6 weeks defines chronic urticaria. This means you are not likely to find any allergy. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is not likely to cause hives but Aspirin can do it. A dermatologist can help you.

Timing is important: Urticaria caused by allergy to medications occur often minutes after exposure to the offending drug, so time of onset is very important. If you suspect an allergy to tylenol, (acetaminophen) although uncommon, your best bet is to consult with an allergist or a dermatologist.
