A member asked:

I had blood work done this morning after consuming 9 beers lastnight (bachelor party). could that be cause for alt of 52? everything else normal.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: Alcohol use can definitely cause liver enzymes to go up, however, we mostly see this with long term use of alcohol, and usually the ast is higher that the alt. However, if you normal hardly drink, and that night was excessive for you, it could have caused it. It would be best to avoid alcohol, tylenol (acetaminophen) (or generic) for a month and get it retested. An elevated alt can also be seen with hepatitis c.
