Different locations: Thrush usually appears as white patches at multiple places in the mouth, inside the cheeks and on the tongue. Tonsillitis has redness or white patches just on the tonsils at the back of the throat. Both can hurt a lot. Thrush comes from a fungus germ. Treatments for the two are quite different.
