See a podiatrist: It may be a ganglion. Sometimes it can be aspirtated by placing a needle in it & withdrawing the fluid. Or it may need surgical removal.

Sorry: There's really no way of telling what a lump is without an exam and possibly x-rays. You should have this evaluated by a podiatry. Chances are it isn't serious, but you'll sleep better if it is professionally evaluated.

Ganglionic cyst: A ganglionic cyst can sometimes occur in front of the ankle. It has the characteristics of moving just beneath the skin. It is associated with injury to the tendon sheath. Sometimes it needs draining or injection of medication for improvement and sometimes surgery is required if conservative measures are not successful. Consult with your podiatrist to make sure it is not another tumor type.

Maybe a ganglion: What you describe might be a ganglion (ganglionic cyst) . This is a benign herniation of joint or tendon sheath, and can cause pressure or be irritated by shoes, causing pain. See a podiatrist or orthopedist regarding this. Steroid injections might help reduce this, and sometimes surgical excision is necessary.
