Like back pain: There may be no pain with lung cancer at all, which is why diagnosis can be delayed. If there is pain, it may be where a rib, or chest structures are invaded or with spread to bone. With those situations the pain is at or near that site. Pain is individualized, graded from 1-10 and is variable.

Constant: Pain from lung cancer usually only occurs when the cancer has spread outside of the lung to the chest wall or ribs. In that case people develop constant pain in that area. This pain is not usually aggravated or improved by movement or activity and it is usually not tender to touch.
