Lower back stiffness: Low back pain, stiffness, cramping etc is best treated first with physical therapy with range of motion and strengthening exercises. Occasionally muscle relaxants might be prescribed.

A lot!: Lifestyle changes are important like not smoking, weight control and regular exercise. You can use medication if no contraindications like ibuprophen or naproxen, try a back support, guided exercise (stretching, core stengthening, cardiovascular) at least 3x a week & activity modification. Yoga & pilates are good choices. If no better, then see your doctor for further evaluation and treatment.

Stretch & ezercise: For most, simple stretching and exercise auffices. Heat can help as can some over the counter remedies and medications like tylenol, (acetaminophen) ibuprophen or naproxen.
