Varies, see dentist: There are two most common causes: aphthous ulcers and herpetic ulcers. Herpes virus causes the one and another virus causes the other. If they are on the roof of your mouth or the gum tissue near the teeth, then it is herpes. If on the loose tissues -- cheek, inside lips, floor of mouth under tongue, etc. Then aphthous. See your dentist to evaluate. Be careful with herpes.
