Yes: We depend on the movement of the muscles of the leg to return blood and fluids (lymphatics) back to the heart. When you have had your leg in a dependent position and been only partial weightbearing, swelling is common. The swelling should resolve with elevation of the leg. If not, or if you have significant redness, tenderness , and warmth in the calf, then you should get an ultrasound.

It could: Some persistent swelling is not unusual even a month after fracturing your ankle. You can also get swelling from not using your leg muscles like normal. If the swelling is a lot more than usual, and it is painful consult with your doctor.

YES: It is normal to have swelling four weeks after a fracture. Bone healing takes 6-8 weeks, then your body will remodel the healed fracture for six months to a year. When you are standing and bearing weight, due to gravity's affect. Elevate your leg. Often, a compression type brace or pneumatic air walker boot helps. If you have trouble breathing and/or pain in calf, go to er to r/o a blood clot.
