Facial Surgery: Yes it is helpful to sleep in a more upright position after facial surgery. After any surgery if you can keep the area elevated there will be less swelling. Facial surgery can be unique especially if you had nasal surgery. The swelling that develops on the tip of the nose after nose reshaping surgery can last a year.
