High protein intake: The kidney excretes acid by producing ammonia which traps the acid in urine. Most people eat 1mosm/kg per day of acid in the form of protein ( amino acids). Therefore when eating a high protein diet or having a concentrated urine it can smell like ammonia.

Many possibilities: Urine smelling stronger could be the product of food or drink (asparagus for example lead to increased urine odor), hydration, or urine infection. If this persists you will need to see your doctor to have a urinalysis and urine culture and examination.
