Depends: It depends in part on your symptoms. Is it painful or limiting your function? Calcification of the rotator cuff can occur with chronic inflammation or may be an acute process. NSAIDS/Ice/Heat/PT: Calcific tendonopathy is a self limiting problem. Try meds/heat/ice first. The natural history is it will resolve on its own. Unfortunately, it is a very painfull problem. Physical therapy will help maintain motion and prevent a stiff shoulder from occurring. Cortisone will help the symptoms but not get rid of the calcium. Sometime surgery is indicated to remove the calcium if it is too painful.
