Depends: It depends in part on your symptoms. Is it painful or limiting your function? Calcification of the rotator cuff can occur with chronic inflammation or may be an acute process. Treatment is really based primarily on your symptoms. Consider being seen and examined. Thank you for the question.

NSAIDS/Ice/Heat/PT: Calcific tendonopathy is a self limiting problem. Try meds/heat/ice first. The natural history is it will resolve on its own. Unfortunately, it is a very painfull problem. Physical therapy will help maintain motion and prevent a stiff shoulder from occurring. Cortisone will help the symptoms but not get rid of the calcium. Sometime surgery is indicated to remove the calcium if it is too painful.
