Srthritis: This may just be some inflammation from a flare if osteoarthritis. You may benefit from taking one of the otc anti inflammatories such as aleve (naproxen) or Motrin if you can take them for 5-7 days and see if it helps. If not, see your doctor.

Old injury: It is likely that this could be a consequence of an old injury that went unnoticed. Inflammation or injury to the tendons is probably the cause of ongoing pain. See a hand physiotherapist.
