Let e explain: Stools that look tarry, black, or bloody can be alarming to parents, but they are not always a sign of serious illness. Bleeding in the upper intestinal tract, such as the stomach. Iron supplements, pepto-bismol, black licorice. Good luck.

Black tarry stool: This may be an emergency. We describe GI bleeding when one has dark black and tarry stools with a bowel movement. Please get your child to their health car provider asap.
