Maybe: Bacterial pneumonia is not transmitted person to person, so one is not a carrier. Bacterial pneumonia occurs when bacteria living in the mouth and nose are aspirated or inhaled into the lung and set up infection. Viral pneumonia like that caused by the flu can be transmitted person to person, so for a time while infected with virus you can pass it on and be a "carrier".
