Serious!: Leg ulcers in a diabetic is a big concern. If the ulcer becomes infected it could extend quickly without appropriate treatment. She should be seen by a team of specialists including wound care and internal medicine. She will likely need wound debridement, antibiotics, leg artery ultrasound, and possibly MRI of the area to rule out bone infection (osteomyelitis).
