Lactic acid or urea: Lactic acid (amlactin) will help thin out some of the thickening that you are experiencing. Prescription urea will help also. Weight loss is your best bet.

Common in diabetes: Acanthosis is a sign of Insulin resistance, which precedes most cases of type 2 diabetes. Your dose of metformin is too low and needs to increased as tolerated. May need other medication as well, combined with education, diet, weight loss, monitoring, exercise, etc.
