Is it safe to use tampons while you still have nuvaring inserted?

Yes: You can use tampons and the NuvaRing together if needed. Follow the normal safety rules for tampons--do not leave tampons in beyond normal maximal length of time. If you accidentally pull out the NuvaRing when removing your tampon, rinse off the NuvaRing in cool to lukewarm water (never hot water as you can damage it) and reinsert.
