Injection: A cortisone/steroid injection is typically very helpful for a trigger finger. Benefit is often greater if done under ultrasound guidance, and the medical literature supports the use of ultrasound over blind injections for this. Surgery is the right choice if 2-3 injections and relative rest do not provide long-term relief of pain or triggering.

Steroid Injection: Trigger finger can be very painful especially in the morning. The finger stiffens up overnight. If splinting is not helpful, then a cortisone injection into the finger can provide great relief. Have her see a hand surgeon to get it checked out.
