Food diary: Keep a food diary to find out which foods aggravate your stomach. Then avoid those foods. Pepcid (famotidine) otc will help short term. Stop caffeine, stay upright after eating, stop sodas and avoiding spicy foods will help too.

Many things: For many, prevention = avoiding fried/oily foods, peppermint, chocolate, cheese, tomatoes, alcohol, nicotine, spicy foods, black pepper, orange juice, eating <4 hrs before bedtime.Raising head of bed 6in can help.Course of otc h2 blocker (eg. Ranitidine) or ppinhibitor (eg. Omeprazole) can help, better with gaviscon. If pain/difficult swallowing, wt loss, no appetite, better see doc; those are warning signs.
